Oh! by the way …

I did persevere with The Convent (a novel by Panos Karnezis, referred to in earlier posts*) – despite the fact that, from the start, I wasn’t liking the way it was written.

I wanted to know how things ended up. But there was something else, too: I was keen to get some insight into why this author was successful.

Sure, the author succeeded in hooking me in … and keeping me on the line to the last line.

And I got to blog about it several times. That’s all I can say about it, really.

  1. I think it must be said that the story — which does not end happily for anyone — is told without a trace of compassion. Perhaps, after all, the author is doing not much more than sniping at the Roman Catholic Church.
