Winter meditation

Deliberate breaths
warming my face, as again
I pull the covers
up over my head.

Here is another experimental poem using the format I started playing with on 28 July 2010 – a four-line stanza and a syllable-count of 5-7-5-5.

Yes, the Japanese prefer poems with odd numbers of lines … but in the West our preference is often for couplets and quatrains.

Certainly, this is not a ‘long haiku’ – I definitely wanted to add more content, and human feeling, than is fitting for a haiku.
