Flight of pigeons

The birds calling from the trees in and around Wellington’s Central Park – by day, the tui, and the ruru at night – have helped compensate for my being obliged to ‘perch’ in a chasm of cardboard boxes and dismantled furniture whilst waiting for the Mt Victoria apartment to become available.

Tom Lehrer’s satirical song, Poisoning pigeons in the park, doesn’t quite sum up my attitude towards the birds sometimes dubbed “feathered rats”. So I won’t soon forget the daily sight of the local pigeons flying in loose, liquid formation – which I have for some time been endeavouring to photograph, and which, fortuitously, I managed yesterday morning.
