Shadows of the past

shadows of the past

shadows of the past (07 Feb 2013)

I like trees because they seem more resigned to the way they have to live than other things do. (Willa Sibert Cather, in O Pioneers!)

The highest shelves at Vessel (the shop where I work part-time) are good for displaying some of our larger item: platters, jugs, bowls and vases. Towards the end of the day, the combination of natural and artificial light can produce some dramatic effects. Pictured here, dried magnolia branches that have remained in the shop since they first arrived, laden with flowers. “shadows of the past” was captured on 07 Feb 2013.

  1. In addition to being a lovely shot on its own, there are lots of deep questions raised about the present, the past, the proportions of memory — lots of interesting things.
