These two images – perhaps the most interesting of the batch – have remained in my camera since the experimental shots were taken in Wellington’s historic Te Aro Park, one afternoon more than a month ago. I was reminded of them at lunchtime today as I sat in Civic Square, sharing my fish and chips with a flock of boisterous and rowdy gulls, several of which dared to grab morsels held out to them.

The birds pictured here are likely to be black-billed gulls, but some of them could be red-billed gulls (the most common of New Zealand’s gulls).
